Jonah Hitchens and 5 Piece Band
Kicking off the grand finale of Clevedon Literary Festival More Than Words was local musician, Jonah Hitchens

Jonah and his band have been keeping it funky for many years, entertaining crowds all over including at famous venues such as London's Jazz Cafe and Ronnie Scotts. Closer to home he’s made regular Bristol appearances including at The Old Duke and Mr Wolfs, but back in Clevedon, alfresco style, Jonah brought his dream-team of musicians to the seafront, all bonded by a desire to keep things feeling funky!

His music has also been featured on BBC Radio 6 and Radio 3 and at the TATE and Serpentine Galleries.

After recently branching out into theatre work, Benjin is currently principal musician at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in Headlong's winter production of Henry V. His ninth solo album ‘Music for Cello and Nyckelharpa' was released in the Autumn of 2022 on Canigou Records and is available to purchase now. Rasha and her 5 piece band
Headlining the bandstand was Sudanese artist Rasha and her five piece band who joined us all the way from Spain and they certainly brought the dry weather and a lovely sunset with them.

Rasha is a Sudanese singer, musician and songwriter who has had a global presence in the international music scene for over 30 years. Her unique style comes from the desire to share the beauty and traditions of the diverse music from Sudan, with her own contemporary twists making it accessible to everyone the world over.

A fascinating amalgamation of styles, Rasha's music includes the centuries old musical traditions of the Nubian culture, rhythms of central Sudan, the tom-tom beats of the African Sahel, echoes an influences of North African, Arabic and Andalusian (flamenco) sounds, and jazz. Through her career Rasha has collaborated with Youssou N'Dour, K'naan, Geoffrey Oryema amongst many others and it was an honour to see her and her band perform in Clevedon!

Clevedon Live Music want to extend a huge and warm thanks to The Successors of the Mandingue for making Rasha’s visit with her band to Clevedon possible. You can find out more about their fantastic work building bridges between musical cultures, connecting artists, communities and ideas here: @successorsofthemandingue 🙏🏻
